The Lady Fatemah (a.s.) Charitable Trust Profile
The Lady Fatemah Charitable Trust was formed in 1997 with a bold mission of alleviating poverty in all of its forms. The origins of the organisation were formed when the founding trustees consistently received a wide range of appeals from around the world. In keeping with the philosophy of never turning away any needy person, the Trust manages projects globally, ranging from education and healthcare to socio-economic regeneration and micro-finance.
The projects are currently focused in Asia and are funded by donors internationally. From an operational point of view, one of the founding principles is to operate on the basis of zero administration fees and ensure that every penny donated goes directly to those in need, thereby avoiding any wastage. This doctrine of transparency is translated to all aspects of the Trust's work, from
verification of appeals, to providing full receipts to benefactors for every donation.
The generalist approach to tackling poverty has attracted a range of donors, from institutions supporting a particular activity, to individuals wishing to support the needy with whatever assistance is required at any point in time. Donors are welcome to contribute any sum with
whatever frequency is convenient to them.
The Trust combines a global perspective with local insight. As such, there are experienced volunteers on the grounds who verify each of the appeals that arise and are available to provide on-going support and guidance. Currently the majority of projects are in Southern India, simply because of the colossal need in that region. Wherever possible, the Trustees and volunteers endeavour to work closely with other charities, so as to leverage the full benefit of the collective goodwill of donors. We have found that joining hands with other organisations, in terms of resources and insights, often results in achievements beyond the scope of any one charitable institution.
