First Fruit is based in the East London borough of Newham. Founded upon Christian principles it seeks to work with marginalised members of the community, particularly those with a history of homelessness and / or persistent unemployment.
Accommodation is provided in two hostels for single homeless men. Qualified members of staff work with residents to draw up agreed support plans. The focus is upon finding appropriate training and employment opportunities, as well as move-on accommodation.
Employment may be offered in one of the growing number of social (not-for-profit) businesses, including warehousing, construction, garment manufacture and textile recycling.
First Fruit also co-ordinates a project called Transform Newham which is bringing together churches in Newham from different denominations in unity, prayer and action.
