Durham Palestine Educational Trust Profile
Started in 1984, this charity aids the social and economic development of Palestine by offering scholarships for young Palestinians to study for Masters degrees at Durham University.
Two scholarships a year cost £40,000 but Durham University generously waives the tuition fees of about £20,000. The rest is raised by individual donations and fund-raising events.
100% of all donations is guaranteed to go to supporting Palestinian students. We have no paid workers. You can become a member of the Trust. Write to Dr Justin Willis, History Department, Durham University, Durham DH1 3EX or visit our website at www.dpet.org.uk/
All donations you make to this charity will help to bring hope to people who often think that the world has forgotten them. The skills the scholarship holders learn in England will transform the lives of countless Palestinians when they return home.
Students have studied a wide variety of subjects at Durham, including management, Compting, Arabic-English Translation, Archaeological Surveying, Social Work, Water Engineering, Economics, Electronic Engineering and Physics.
Our Patrons include the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Kenneth Calman and the former Astronomer Royal, Professor Sir Arnold Wolfendale.
