GLOBAL RESCUE SERVICES Profile
Global Rescue Services is a Registered Charity (No. 1093812) involved in Search and Rescue and has been in existence for over 3 years. The team, based in Penmaenmawr, North Wales, consists of volunteers including trainees new to this type of work as well as experienced members who in the past 37 years have responded to worldwide incidents including earthquakes, floods and terrorist acts.
Although the team is in its infancy it has received the recognition of the Welsh Assembly Government and the UK Government. However, in line with other voluntary search and rescue teams nationwide, we do not receive any government financial assistance whatsoever.
As a result of recent terrorist threats, natural disasters and unfortunately the increasing rate of missing victims of crime including children the team has identified the need for specialist search and rescue dogs.
The team is currently involved in three main areas namely:
a) Collapsed Building and Confined space work – We have 2 qualified terriers with 2 qualified handlers and a further 2 student handlers in training. All handlers trained to work either dog. This is the only project world wide to utilise the qualities of terriers for this type of work.
b) Mountain and Lowland Search and Rescue work – 4 dogs and handlers in the process of training. These dogs and handlers will supplement the good work already being carried out by the voluntary Mountain Rescue organisations in North Wales – we are working very closely with them. We also have reciprocal training ties with the Croatian and Bosnian Mountain Rescue Organisations.
c) Human remains (Cadaver) work – 4 dogs and handlers in the process of training. When fully trained we will be the only team in existence in Wales capable of carrying out this type of work.
In order for these projects to succeed Global Rescue Services are looking for a financial assistance to support the ongoing training and development of both personnel and dogs. Without outside financial assistance this team will not be able to function in the future which could have a devastating effect in the event of a major incident.
I shall be pleased if you could consider providing sponsorship or donating to the training of one or more of the above dogs and handlers.
I think that item c) above is particularly relevant and important to us in the UK because we will be one of a limited number of very specialised Teams in existence in our Country able to carry out Human Remains (Cadaver) Work. At the present time the Teams available in this Country can be counted on one hand and due to the regrettable increase in the number of incidents they are requested to attend resources are stretched to the limit.
I will be most grateful if you could give the above your consideration.
I will be more than happy to discuss any aspect of our work with you – Please feel free to contact me on 01492 622375
