Meetings are held in 2 venues monthly, at Crawley and Worthing when demonstrations of various therapies, talks about managing the condition etc. are presented. Weekly Yoga classes are held in Horsham, Worthing and Chichester. Swimming sessions are offered to members. Smaller groups meet for coffee mornings in each other’s homes offering mutual support. Seasonal lunches are held offering social interaction and friendship. Fibro pen friends have been organised for links with fellow sufferers in other countries. A party, with a birthday cake, was held at each of the 2 anniversaries of the start of the group. Therapy Taster Days have been held in Horsham and Worthing for people to try out various treatments – massage, reflexology, herbology, aromatherapy, Alexander technique, cranial sacro therapy, Indian head massage, Reiki, kinesiology, magnet therapy etc. etc. No single treatment suits everyone, so experimentation is necessary. The group has an extensive library of books about FMS, as well as tapes and CDs to encourage relaxation, that members can borrow.

The group is now a registered charity – No: 1108454. The logo, adopted this year, of the Fibro Bear, depicts the love and embracing the members of the group have and offer to each other.

There has been a telephone help-line since before the group was founded and still continues: 01403 255450. This is a real life-line for those who call. The group also has a bi-monthly magazine called ‘Fibro News’ that is packed with information about the group, its members, meetings as well as treatments, coping strategies, FAQ, etc. Members find the contents to be most useful in their lives.

The group has a website that assists in promoting awareness of the syndrome, for the general public, other sufferers wherever they live as well as the medical profession that often does not understand the problem. You can visit the website for further information and inspiration.
