Tibet Foundation Profile

Tibet Foundation, a UK registered charity (no.292400), founded in 1985, works toward creating greater awareness of all aspects of Tibetan culture and the needs of the Tibetan people.

The patron of the Foundation is His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

To create a greater awareness of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's message of peace and harmony,

To further the understanding of Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan culture, and to work towards their continuity and preservation

To improve education and health care, and to alleviate poverty among people of Tibetan origin in different parts of the world.

Tibet Foundation achieves its aims through its aid and educational programmes. With the enthusiastic co-operation of local communities and official authorities our overseas projects offer practical and sustainable assistance. They are carefully managed and closely monitored by experienced staff, both directly from London as well as from our offices in the field, ensuring that every penny donated goes directly to where it should.

Currently, the Foundation helps the Tibetan community in exile in India and Nepal through its Tibetans in Exile programme - building a future for Tibetan refugees.

In Tibet, the Foundation runs projects including Sershul County Health Initiative, co-funded by the EU, under Aid to Tibet programme - empowering Tibetans in their Homelands.

In Mongolia, the Foundation helps the Mongolian people to revive their Buddhist tradition under the Buddhism in Mongolia programme - rebuilding tradition.

Under its Art and Culture programme, the Foundation organises a comprehensive cultural events including the recent public performances by visiting monks and musicians from India in London - celebrating the Fifth Anniversary of the Tibetan Peace Garden. In Glasgow, from 29 May to 1 June 2004, the Foundation hosted "Tibet: A Living Culture" exhibition during the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The exhibition has also reached in other parts of the world including Barcelona (Spain-1994), Wanganui (New Zealand-1996) and the Helsinki Museum (Finland-1998).
