The Creative Foundation Profile
The key mission of the Creative Foundation is to regenerate Folkestoneís historic Old Town as a sustainable Creative Quarter. We are already attracting a board range of established and start-up business from the creative industries, as well as studio space for artists. Part of this regeneration programme is to also creative a new High Education facility for Folkestone: The Folkestone Creative Institute, this will be opening September 06 offering Foundation Degrees. The CF is working with Canterbury Christ Church University and Greenwich University. It is hoped that this new facility will offer courses in performance art through to multimedia by 2008 for over 400 students.
The Creative Foundation, a registered charity, converts redundant buildings into studios, live/work space, workshops, office units and shop space. Our portfolio of more than 40 properties covers 150,00 sq ft, ranging from derelict factories and warehouses to small run-down shop units, with more properties coming on-stream all the time.
What makes us standout from other similar charities is, firstly, we control our buildings; we arenít at the mercy of private landlords, with uncertainties on the future use of buildings and spiralling rent costs. Secondly, we welcome all-comers, as long as you share our creative vision, our space is not specific to anyone creative discipline.
The Creative Quarter is a place for jewellers, novelists, publishers, film makers, musicians, sculptors
