The CADASIL Research and Support Trust Profile
THE CADASIL RESEARCH AND SUPPORT TRUST
Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Sub-cortical Infarcts and Leukoencephalophathy
CADASIL is a hereditary disease of the brain and presents with migraines with or without an aura, mood disturbances, depression, focal neurologic deficits, strokes, and dementia. Most patients will show symptoms by age 60 years.
The CADASIL Research and Support Trust was created by Mr Jack Shields, a CADASIL Sufferer, who was diagnosed in 2001.
The Trust was set up as a direct result of the lack of information and help available for those diagnosed with CADASIL.
CADASIL can be described as a 'newly discovered illness'. At present it is impossible to say how many people worldwide have CADASIL. It is agreed by members of the medical establishment that CADASIL is HUGELY underdiagnosed.
The aims of the CADASIL Trust are..
To increase awareness of CADASIL
To provide information and support to CADASIL sufferers, their families, and doctors
To co-ordinate research into positive treatments for CADASIL
To co-ordinate research into a cure for CADASIL
To develop a treatment centre for CADASIL sufferers
We invite fellow CADASIL sufferers to register their details with us by clicking on this link.
