Guildford YMCA Profile
We run projects for children and young people aged 8-25. Camp Waverley Woods is a popular summer day camp for 8-14 year olds, with volunteer leaders aged 16 and above. Plantation Cafe is an alcohol and drug free "chill out" zone for teenagers. Other projects run from here too, including 1st Base, which works in local schools to help 13-16 year olds re-engage with education, and Plantation Trading, a social enterprise company that provides young people with mentoring and basic training in grounds maintenance. We also run two Prince's Trust teams each year, working with 16-25 year olds who are looking for direction in life.
We host Millennium Volunteers for West Surrey and the Nightstop project, which provides emergency overnight accommodation for 16-19 year olds, and homelessness education programmes in local schools.
We run two hostels, one for 120 people, up to 40 of whom are young people referred by Guildford Borough Concil who would otherwise be homeless, and a smaller "move-on" hostel with 13 bedsit-style rooms. The larger hostel is also open to members of the public as are the restaurant and conference facilities.
