Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) Profile
The Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) is a membership organisation of the leading charities that fund medical research in the UK. AMRC:
- provides guidance, support and training to members on best practice issues in research
- represents the interests of members to government and others responsible for UK research policy
- promotes the public's understanding of research
AMRC members are a major source of funding for medical research in a wide range of areas including cancer, eye research, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, heart disease and many rare conditions. They contribute over £600 million annually to medical research in the UK.
In order to qualify for membership, charities must use peer review when allocating research funding and have a research strategy in place. Further information on membership criteria is available on the website.
NB AMRC does not itself provide any funding for or conduct medical research.
