AWARENESS GENERATION PROJECTS FOR
RURAL AND POOR WOMEN

Need of this project

Villages around Arcot and Timiri Taluks of Vellore District are agriculture based areas and the women gender is deprived of educational rights from time immemorial. Particularly the oppressed class (SC/ST) have meager access to schools and higher studies. These underprivileged women are being enrolled in government schools and they study unto 10the standard and some girls study up to 12th Standard. There is a much need for these girls to continue their studies in higher educational institutions to equip them to go for high salaried employment in the nearby areas where they can find high tech MNC companies and mega industrial units or to create awareness to study further in colleges. Also, needed is the creation of awareness about various schemes of the government to continue their studies ahead. Awareness is to be created among these women to go for self employment by organizing in SHGs to attain sustainable growth and development.

The field staffs of our Association have identified around 200 girls from 100 remote villages and we have sorted out a programme to create awareness in these areas to equip and empower them to inculcate awareness about continuous higher education to attain sustainable growth and reasonable economic and social status sans caste and communal differences.

This project will meticulously conduct awareness campaigns at grass root level to sensitise them for continuing their studies and to propagate the government schemes available for them to equip them for self employment. Meetings at village level by providing demonstrations, plays and awareness speeches will create overall awareness about the availability of government schemes to equip them for self employment and to attain sustained growth.

Method of work

• Equip and empower rural woman particularly the drop outs for self employment/high salaried employment and continuing their education

• Mainly concentrate on the weaker and oppressed sections (Dalits) of the society beyond caste, religion and language limits.

• Working as a channalising institute between the people and Government to implement the Government welfare schemes.

• Initiate new awareness programme like youth training, women’s participation in all walks of life.

• Education on civil rights on Government schemes.

• Steering committee to be formed at organizational level to form the campaign committee.

• Formation of Campaign Committee to chart out the programmes, project materials, day to day operational and administrative works.

• Selecting and appointing village level coordinators to conduct awareness programme time to time and to meet the drop outs at their doors for deliberation.

• In the 100 remote villages, from each village two candidates will be trained through our education mission.

• Preparation of standard campaign material, banners, boards, mobile campaign vehicle, handbills and literature about the government schems.

• Follow up/ feed back mechanism to be constituted to get time to time results of the project

• Preparation of feed back, consolidation of reports and submitting it to the NGO

• Periodical meetings to be conducted for the coordinators to monitor train and refresh. Also to get periodical feed back.

Expected impact through the project

We strongly believe that after 3 years of this work there will be a social awareness, women development and community reconstruction will be done in villages.

• General awareness will be created in the identified villages’ women to initiate preferences for self employment and sustained growth.
• Schemes available with the government for these segment
• Eradication of ignorance on government schemes and inculcation of awareness on education
• Confidence level will increase in these women to approach the concerned government offices to have knowledge and utility of the schemes.
• Training for having linkage to social organizations, government offices, scheme managers, funding/financing agencies.
• Knowledge about forming democratic groups, unity, united actions and to enjoy the fruits of collective functioning and collective results.
• Overall awareness about their self status and ability construction towards sustained growth.
